How spoiled are we??

by Guy on Nov.18, 2009, under Uncategorized

Seriously!! So I get an email from one of my new found brothers in Africa, and he had a question. He wanted to know how to hook up a graphic equalizer. Now this guy is what I would call a genius. He taught himself how to play the keyboard because he saw the need, he then figured that they would need a bass player so he taught someone to play the keyboard and then taught himself how to play the bass. He continued to do this same pattern until they had a full band at their church. By the way he taught himself how to run sound too. Needless to say I was a little surprised when he asked me how to hook up an EQ. I poked around online for a little bit and found a .pdf with some diagrams on it a emailed it to him. The response I got from him was very humbling!! You would have thought I gave him the world!!! He was so excited to have information about his equipment. All he wants to do is further the kingdom and he was blown away when he received a mear 21MB .pdf. So how spoiled are we?? We take everything for granted!! Education, information, technology, you name it! Robert is his name and he is working hard to come to America. All he wants to do is come over here and learn how to make their services better technically so they can spread the Gospel. Sometimes I am disgusted with myself because I am so selfish. Jesus said “Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes.” Matt. 6:34 msg.

So needless to say I am in the process of gathering all sorts of information that I can mail Robert.

God please forgive me for my selfishness. May I help further your Kingdom around the world.

So I’m still a Geek

by Guy on Nov.14, 2009, under Uncategorized

Well I’ve been following a friend on twitter and he had mentioned that everyone with a Blackberry should go and get WordPress for Blackberry. So here I am!! Bloging from my phone!! I love it. Maybe now there won’t be such a gap between blogs!! Sorry, not that I have a lot of followers. Ha! So life has been very busy the past however many months since we last spoke. Most recently I have been part of an awesome TV show called Walking In The Light that we produce at the church. I have learned so much. We have been on the air for 11 weeks now and are about to expand to two more stations!! So far our ratings have been really good!! I hope to be on a national carrier i.e. Daystar or something like that by the end of the year. We could use your prayers, because it takes an enormous amount of money to be on tv. However the number of lives we have the potential to touch is amazing!! I know there a lot of people out there on TV preaching the Gospel, but I am honored to be a part of it now!! Where one man may not touch someone’s heart another will!! It takes all of Gods family to reach the lost!! Pastor Gene the other day was in a meeting with the staff and he was talking about the upcoming sermon, and how we are going to survive the recession. One thing that he wanted us all to think about is when we wake up everyday is His kingdom our primary concern??? That is deep!! I’ll be the first so humbly say no, but I am planning on making the change!! Think about it. If you make it your primary concern you can’t loose!!! How cool is that?? Serve him with intention not out of convince!!!

I am so AMAZED!!

by Guy on Mar.29, 2009, under Uncategorized

Well we had a rehearsal this evening at the new building, and I just have to say Easter is going to be so awesome!!

I was watching the video team work tonight, and I was blown away at how good those guys are!  A lot of them have only been on the team for just a week or so and some don’t have any experience at all.  You wouldn’t be able to tell by watching tonight.

The shots that the camera guys were getting were as good as I have seen on any show on t.v.  I am so proud of everyone on the video team.  I overheard a conversation the other day about how excited one of the camera operators was to be running a camera.  Everyone is taking ownership of THEIR Church and equipment!!  I think that is awesome!!

Another amazing thing is what a difference the lights make.  Right now we just have six moving lights and they look awesome!!  But guess what.  We are getting four more this week!!  WOW!  Can’t wait to see what Leslie is going to do with all of them!

Thank you to all of the Tech Team at The Gathering!!  You guys are the best, and I love each and every one of you.  Thank you for your time an patience.  Thank you to your families for giving you up and allowing you to serve.  I pray that God blesses you one hundred times more than you can imagine!!

Is it just me?

by Guy on Mar.19, 2009, under Uncategorized

Man, I didn’t realize how emotionally tied I was to this new building project.  This evening we were blessed to have the Praise Team show up for a rehearsal.  What ended up happening was I had a wonderful group of volunteers show up for training on our new equipment, and we were able to do some blocking for Easter weekend.  My camera guys were able to get some great shots.  They had a blast, and fell in love with the new cameras.  Meanwhile the Praise Team just stood on stage and “posed” for the cameras.

Towards the end of the night Ashley (my wife and the Worship Leader) came up to me and asked what they were there to do.  So I went up on stage and talked to the Praise Team.  While I was explaining to them how I wanted our “sound-check” to go Sunday night I became overwhelmed and started to cry!  I found myself a little later wondering why? All I was doing was explaining their wireless ear monitors to them.  I have explained IEMs countless times to hundreds of people.  Then it hit me, our vocalists have had such a hard time hearing for the past 8 years, as I was telling them how much better they were going to hear I began thinking how much easier they are going to usher in the Spirit of God!!!!  The lives they are going to be able to touch!!!

I thank God for technology!  He allows us to use technology to spread His word all over the world.  This is one of the first opportunities I have been able to become totally enthralled in using technology to WORSHIP GOD!!!

Thank You God for my talents!!

Ok it’s official. I am a geek!!

by Guy on Mar.16, 2009, under Uncategorized

Commissioning on the AV system started today.  I spent  a good part of the day watching  the ClarkPro guys get set up and start breaking out their “toys”.  My first geek moment was when the RF (that is radio frequency for you non geeks) guy showed up and broke out this cool antenna that looked like one of those batons that you see those track guys hand off to each other while running.  He put it on a mic stand an sat it out in the rain, then he busted out his laptop and fired up his spectrum analyzer, and started his frequency sweep.  While all this is going on I just started asking a couple questions like what in the world is going to happen when Dollywood fired up in a month or so with all their wireless?  He replied that it would not be a problem.  He also said “you have no problems at all, and my work is 100% guaranteed”.  I don’t know about you, but wireless freaks me out and for someone to make a claim like that just amazes me.  I cant wait to see!!

Geek moment #2.  After a staff meeting this evening I returned to the sanctuary as the ClarkPro guys were starting to wrap up.  We started to shoot the bull and come to find out these guys installed a couple of projectors in a very big church in Texas, anyway I found myself and these guys horse laughing about the perils of installing these massive projectors.  I couldn’t help but notice there were a couple of church members sitting in the sanctuary working security looking at us like we were from another planet!  We continued talking tech for an hour or better.   I can honestly say that I only have those type of conversations once or twice a year.  It feels good.

I am thankful that there are other people out there that find this stuff as cool as I do!!!

I am also thankful for George, Andrew, Major, Tom, and Quinton for installing our AV systems.  These guys do a great job, and they are fellow geeks!!

Humble

by Guy on Mar.15, 2009, under Uncategorized

Well I have spent over a week working with some of the best people I know.  They are the people that don’t want any credit for what they do they just want to do the job with excellence!!! I am very thankful, and very humbled by their willingness to serve in the Kingdom of God!  You guys are the best and I thank you for your help!!

Another humbling thing has been  watching our curtains go up in the new sanctuary.  I was standing at FOH yesterday looking at them and got all choked up!!  I feel so unworthy to be a part of something that is going to touch so many lives!!!!!  We start the commissioning phase of the AV install in the morning, and I can’t help but get misty eyed as I type just thinking how God is going to use our building to spread His word.  I can’t believe He has chosen me to help!!  Who am I???  I am a child of God!!!!  He has given it to me and I just have to help Him get it out, and I thank Him for the opportunity.

I feel less than humble.

Just an update

by Guy on Mar.10, 2009, under Uncategorized

Well, well, well…man what a week so far!!!  Started off yesterday pulling all of the AV stuff out of the old church.  I didn’t realize how much cable was up in the attic!!!  Its funny Pastor Gene made the comment today about how much “junk” you tend to collect over time.  I agree.  It took me most of the day Monday just to get all of the cable pulled out, then I think we logged another 3 hours this morning.  After the cable fun, I got the opportunity to help set up the chairs in the new sanctuary.  Man how beautiful it is.  The guys fro ClarkPro Media arrived back on sight today.  They lowered the middle screen for the first time (11′x20′) and it is very cool!!!  They will fire up all of the projectors tomorrow.  I cant wait to see how it all looks!  Sorry I don’t have any pictures to share, I will get some up soon.

Thank you God for all you are doing for us!!
